Time Out says

Artist Ai Yamaguchi is a Japanese artist whose works create a dream world based on the lives of female courtesans working in brothels during Japan's Edo period. Her first solo exhibition in Singapore, kaba ni yu wo heru, features her interpretations of Japanese tanka poetry in the form of paintings. Believing in the power of the written word and how it can evoke several emotions, the artist traces back the origins of words and their meanings, creating paintings that illustrate how humans’ lives are subconsciously being shaped by them.
