Listen up folks, a new art gallery has opened in the city – and it's located in the heart of Orchard. Carré d'artistes art gallery at Paragon Shopping Mall is the group's first outpost in Southeast Asia. The new gallery offers over 600 unique and original artworks in varied styles, mediums and sizes from a selection of 18 international and carefully curated artists.
Art can sometimes be seen as stuffy and pretentious. The gallery aims to change this by making it more accessible and less intimidating for all. The artworks are all placed in open display racks, similar to vinyl records in the record store – and customers can hold up and scrutinise the artwork closely.
New art buyers who are not sure how art is priced can rejoice, as the unique and original art pieces available here are going at fixed prices, determined based on the size of works. The smallest pieces (13cmx13cm) start from $190. You are also free to browse the open display racks, handle and scrutinise artworks from up close, or even try it in different frames to help visualise how it will look in your home – an experience that is hard to come by in orthodox galleries.
The opening of the first Carré d’artistes outpost in Southeast Asia is timely as it marks the gallery's 20th anniversary. Back then, founder Stephanie Tosi wanted to change the notion that art was elitist, therefore embarking on a mission to make art accessible to everyone. The gallery has since opened in Amsterdam, Beijing, Barcelona, Istanbul, Moscow and more.
