Time Out says

Whether you're a budding architect or simply fascinated by buildings, Archifest shines a light on the world of architecture – this year with over 100 immersive programmes spread out across the island and online. Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the annual festival gathers architects and enthusiasts from all over the world, including Singapore, to discover and celebrate design in our everyday lives.

Themed 'Evidence Design', Archifest invites all to delve deeper into built environment through five key lenses: arts and culture, community and inclusivity, environment and sustainability, history and heritage, and technology and methods. Happening from October 1 to 31, the programme this year will feature virtual exhibitions, film premieres, outdoor tours, workshops and exciting forums on topics as diverse as urban self-sufficiency and even fengshui.

Some key highlights include Archifest on Screen, a series of documentary screenings at The Projector that aim to showcase the creative process and powers of architecture through the eyes of architects and designers around the world. Another documentary feature stars Haw Par Villa's last artisan and his quest for a successor, closing with a rousing discussion on the park's fate with conservation experts. Meanwhile, an AirLab exhibition will bring you up close with built designs made with 3D printing techniques, and explore how it impacts contemporary architectural trends.

For a breath of fresh air, attend one of the many tours around Singapore. Head to Geylang, Redhill and more to discover how their unique heritage intertwines with the built landscape; Kayak n Klean Archifest Edition will take you on a kayaking trip around Singapore's Northern coast to conduct a coastal clean-up while learning about the effects of pollution and erosion on these delicate ecosystems. There are also tons of workshops to do with ikebana, shophouse sketching, coffee-brewing and more, to get you involved with their design implications.

Another major programme is the hallmark SIA Conference where esteemed design and architecture maestros from Singapore and beyond gather to discuss the future of culturally and environmentally sustainable design, ecosystems thinking, and how hyperlocal innovation can make its influence felt globally. Happening virtually from October 12 to 14, it will feature design luminaries like Rossana Hu, Brandon Clifford, and Xavier De Kestelier.

With its creative and informative programmes, Archifest makes a brilliant way to discover architectural ideas and techniques, and see the evidence of design in everything around us – in particular, how buildings add vibrancy to our city, preserve our rich heritage, promote sustainability and inclusivity, and drive innovation.
