All around the globe, the pandemic has had an impact on art and design students graduating this year, with many forced to adapt and showcase their much-anticipated graduation exhibitions virtually. Closer to home, the situation is not much different. The Nanyang Technological University (NTU), School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) graduates of Class 2020, for instance, showcased their graduation exhibition virtually in May 2020 amidst the nation-wide circuit breaker.
Now, the budding artists and young creatives are going from #UnseenToSeen, with the first physical art exhibition graduation showcase hosted by a local university since the pandemic. Here's an opportunity to discover new names in Singapore's thriving art scene to have on your radar.
There are works from 165 graduating students to check out, but you can start from 'Grown Up', a mobile game application by Chloe Tan; 3D animation 'Unearthly' by Gerald Wee; 'Looking Glass', a book which encourages the self to reflect upon culturally-specific stereotypes of mental health through illustrations by Nur Mariyah; a short film 'Ghost Paper/Mosquito', in which estranged sisters meet for the first time in a long while at their deceased father's funeral; Muhammad Jafri's 'C爱NTA', which explores interracial relationship issues through education of Malay and Muslim culture; Crystal Sim's 'I'll Always Be Here For You', which conveys the emotions and feelings of a person that goes through self-harm using images and textiles and more.
ADM Show 2020: LIVE will be held from November 27 to December 13 at Gillman Barracks (Block 9 Lock Road, #02-21 and #03-21/22).
