No, not every Korean knows how to make kimchi. But you can learn from a "kimchi grand master" (yes, this prestigious position exists) in November! If you say you're still not into eating kimchi, I bet it's because you haven't had an opportunity to try a good kind. And did I mention free makgeolli for everyone? Well, it's for 1,000 people! Beginning at 1pm on November 4th, the 3 day Seoul Kimchi Festival will consist of 4 ‘BIG’ programs. The first program and the opening program, ‘Big Share,’ will be a kimchi making parade for about 4,000 people including Korean celebrities at Seoul Plaza. The ‘Big Tent’ (open for all 3 days) is an educational program under a huge air dome open for everyone to learn how to make kimchi from a master. On the 4th, ‘Big Play’ program will invite performers, traditional musicians and DJ’s to tell stories of the side dish while people prepare for the making. Lastly the ‘Big Table’ program (occurring on the 6th) a feast offering various dishes (obviously including kimchi) and makgeolli for a thousand people will open. Whether to watch people make the spicy cabbage dish, make your own to take home, or make some to donate, head on down to Seoul Plaza to watch this extraordinary Kimchi Festival! Make sure to register online to participate on their website! Other than the ‘BIG 4’ programs, numerous fun activities for everyone to enjoy will also be available.
