It wasn’t Jamsil Stadium where Kim Gwang-seok held his 1,000th concert—it was at Hakchon Theatre. The now-departed music prodigy packed the house with fans ever since its opening in 1991. He shared the air and shed tears with his fans at this very place for five years. In front of the theatre stands Kim’s 2008 memorial stone. The theatre not only hosts live concerts but also various musicals and plays, including Drama Company Hakchon’s 1994 work Subway Line 1. Recently, the theatre started a special program for kids during the summer break, called “Hakchon Children’s Stage” (other times it’s usually shows for adults). Now it’s becoming a space where both children and adults can share the same thing but reflect on it in different ways. Hakchon Theatre remains and always will be relevant.
