Samcheong-dong is a busy neighborhood to begin with, but the alley that starts from the southern corner of the Jeongdok Public Library in particular is always crowded. Some are there for coffee, others are there to have their portraits drawn, others are arm-in-arm on long dates. This is a typical scene in front of Coffee Bangatgan, known for their excellent coffee. The owner is also said to draw your portrait for 1,000 KRW if you order a drink. Like many shops and cafes in Samcheong-dong, Coffee Bangatgan is a remodeled hanok (traditional Korean house). With just five tables, it's pretty small, but thanks to the homey interior it's quite comfortable. One side of the store has a window for ordering take-out beverages, which come at a discount (orders made inside come at the regular price). They sell a variety of coffee drinks like drip coffee, lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos, all made with coffee beans roasted at the shop. For the non-caffeine-addicted, juice and ice cream are also available. Like what you taste? You can buy roasted beans that come in bags with fun sketches on them, drawn by the owner himself.
