This 4-part class is a crash course on everything you need to know about Jewish weddings! The course is designed for young adult couples who plan to get married within the next year. Two of the classes will be taught by Rabbi Oren Hayon and will focus on the rituals and traditions of Jewish weddings, and some of the basics of creating a Jewish home. The other two classes will be led by Hillel’s clinical counselor Danica Bornstein, who will focus on keys to healthy relationships.
This course will meet for four consecutive weeks, and will take place March 11th, March 18th, March 25th, and April 1st. It will be a great opportunity to learn about wedding traditions and make friends with fellow couples who are going through a similar planning and learning process. Any engaged couples - gay or straight, both Jewish or interfaith - are welcome to enroll!
Rabbi Oren Hayon serves at the Greenstein Family Executive Director of Hillel UW. Rabbi Oren grew up in Columbus, Ohio and received a degree in English from Rice University. Following college, he moved to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry. After several years there, he headed to Jerusalem to begin his rabbinical studies, and was ordained as a rabbi in 2004.
Danica Bornstein, LICSW is Hillel’s Clinical Therapist on site. She graduated with a Master of Social Work degree in 1998 and has worked as a private practice therapist, a community educator, a domestic violence advocate and a teacher of torah cantillation. She has served as a lay leader in her congregation both musically and liturgically, and enjoys working with couples as they plan and prepare for their weddings. As an advocate at the Northwest Network of Bisexual, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse, she helped to develop a popular relationship skills class curriculum which has been taught for over ten years.
