After a phenomenal first installment, Make It Funky SF and The Music Ninja, a Denver-based music discovery blog, are back with the latest in a series of showcases highlighting local artists. This time around offers an equally diverse lineup bringing soulful, psychedelic grooves that, once again, represent the intersection of our tastes. Cosmic Amanda from the Mission's favorite radio station BFF.fm- Best Frequencies Forever will also be spinning before and between sets to keep the funk alive all night.

~Coyote Trickster~

Coyote Trickster formed in the sunny sprawl of the South Bay Area in 2011. They played scuzzy house parties and college bars until moving to San Francisco the next year. The move left them in search of a new drummer. At a foggy bus stop in the Outer Richmond, a desperately bummed cigarette introduced Eric, Paul, and Terence to SF native Huli Curry. After a short residency at the Boom Boom Room with the new lineup, the band disapeared into their home studio to record a proper LP.
Out of the modern madness of San Francisco, Coyote Trickster presented their self-titled debut. Ten songs that zig and zag in a unique form of groovy psychedelia. Vocals quiver and tumble. Voodoo bass bumps with deep funk action. Guitars slice while jazz chords vibe. Drums bubble tightly then erupt into fiery chaos.
The perspective slyly shifts from song to song. A shaman offers wisdom, addicts cry for help, the gentrified march, wife beaters boast and cuss, an acidhead threatens the gods from a lightning rod, and the brokenhearted rise anew.

ColorTV is an Oakland-based soul band formed in 2014. With a membership diverse in gender, age and ethnicity, many influences can be heard but the funk is always the foundation. And they are here to make you sweat.
