Situated in the recently updated Hotel Kabuki in the newly buzzing Japantown, this combination izakaya house and Japanese sports bar is a bit bizarre at first glance. But the oddball vibe is all part of the charm, and it has quickly caught on with a hipster crowd and curious onlookers as well as with fans of the very good food from chef Nicolaus Balla. The menu features small plates of traditional Japanese cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients. Menu specialities include the likes of pork belly braised with house-made kimchee, and seaweed salad with mustard greens and umeboshi. There are more than 20 different sakes on offer, which can be sampled by the flight or in one of the signature sake cocktails.
