The time is running out and you still haven’t figured out the code to open the padlock to get into the box to locate the key that will get you out of here… If this kind of tension appeals to you, you’re an escape room lover.

Next Tuesday, October 1, you can apply your skills to solving one of 10 puzzles online to earn a free escape room experience through the Escape Game. There are two San Francisco sites (at Fisherman’s Wharf and downtown on Kearny Street), which together offer eight different escape room scenarios, several of which are locally themed, like the Gold Rush and Prison Break: Alcatraz. The Fisherman’s Wharf location shares a storefront with Great Big Game Show.

The Escape Game is partnering with Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, singer Gavin DeGraw, actor Neil Patrick Harris, the band Hanson and six others to release online puzzles on October 1. Each partner will drop a clue in a social media post on Instagram, and you can follow the clues to figure out their code word. Codes can be hidden in post captions, videos or even the background. Once you get it, come to this page to click the “I’ve cracked the code” button. Then you can potentially win a free ticket for any of the 44 national locations, valid for any game in October, so long as you cracked the code quickly enough. Each partner will give a free escape game for the first 100 correct answers, so there are 1,000 free tickets up for grabs out there. Sign up here to be emailed when the puzzles release.

If you’re under 18, you’ll need a parent’s help/permission to participate. Part of the fun can be sharing ideas and problem-solving on Reddit. Wrack your brain and then wrack your friends’ brains. And good luck!
