This summer, something special, blue and very trippy is coming to Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s a village of creatures whose skin is an intense cerulean, often found wearing slouchy white hats. It’s Smurfs: The Adventure, an immersive experience.

Inside, you’ll find 10 physical, interactive experiences centered around a main hub of Smurfs Village. The experience opens in May in the old Madame Tussaud’s wax museum building (which, in the meantime, will host a pop-up called the Museum of Failure starting next month).

First, you’ll walk through a bioluminescent mushroom-bedazzled tunnel to reach the Smurfs Village, with magical lanterns and trees. The lighting package inside the village means that over the course of 90 minutes, you’ll go through Smurf night and Smurf day.

You can “drive” recycling vehicles via a screen-based experience to help clean the forest with Recycle Smurf, build a dream garden with projection-mapped “magic sand” with Gardener Smurf, make music by drumming on magical mushrooms (huh) with Harmony Smurf and do a series of other Smurf-oriented tasks alongside Smurfs you may know from the series. The experience is all-ages (do what you will with the mushrooms).

Will you hear Rihanna’s voice? It’s possible, since Rihanna is starring as Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie opening in July. She’ll be writing and recording original songs for the film and serving as a producer. While the movie opens July 18, this San Francisco experience will beat it by a few months. Smurfs: The Adventure is slated to open in May.

If you want to upgrade your Smurf experience, there are currently Sapphire and Gold tickets available, which give you front-of-line access, early anytime admission, a limited edition sapphire and gold ticket, an exclusive screening of the movie when it opens, a T-shirt and an exclusive collectible figure. Only 1,000 of these tickets are available. Click the link on the website to join the waitlist to purchase.
