It’s a hot moment in your life—engorged blood, heavy breathing, clothing hitting the floor—and so one of you takes a moment to apply the spray-on condom. You’re certain it’s going to be effective… well, just as soon as it dries. Then after that, you and your wild night can continue!
This is just one of the exhibits that awaits you at the Museum of Failure, a pop-up exhibition coming to San Francisco for a few months this spring. As the name implies, the traveling show spotlights notorious product flops—though some of them were just ahead of their time.
Another showstopping object is Rejuvenique, a rejuvenating electrical mask from Dynasty actress Linda Evans, which, when you wear it, makes you look like Michael Myers from Halloween. You can enjoy the enticing thought of a frozen beef lasagna dinner made by a toothpaste company and other failed products.
In all, there are 159 products and services that the buying public just couldn’t see itself buying. Perhaps if Shark Tank had snatched up the ideas teeming from the brains of these entrepreneurs, it would be a different story. But for now, we can all marvel that someone thought this would be their retirement plan in product form.
This entertaining pop-up is coming in mid-March (opening date not announced yet) to the old Madame Tussaud’s wax museum space at Fisherman’s Wharf. Previously, it was in Budapest, and after San Francisco it’ll head to Austin and Montreal. When the Museum of Failure departs, in its place will arrive Smurfs: The Adventure, an interactive, all-ages attraction banking on the projected success of this summer’s movie starring Rihanna as Smurfette. The Smurfs exhibition opens here in May 2025.
