With nine World Series titles and fifteen American League pennants, there’s no denying that the Oakland A's are a history-making bunch. (The wave was invented at an A's game in 1981, after all.)

To honor the Oakland Athletics' 50th anniversary, the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) curated Homegrown Heroesa celebration of the baseball team’s trailblazing players. The 350-square-foot installation focuses on the lives of three iconic players Dennis Eckersley, Rickey Henderson and Dave Stewart, all Oakland natives who contributed to the Town on and off the field. The exhibit includes never-before-seen game-day photos, high school yearbook photos, athletic memorabilia worn by the three teammates and an original poster from the legendary 1989 Battle of the Bay World Series. Interactive features will even invite visitors to contribute their own baseball memories to the museum.

"What better way to honor this significant milestone than by highlighting three of the team's icons, all Bay Area natives who were instrumental in securing the 1989 World Series win and in demonstrating the incredible history of baseball in Oakland," says OMCA Director & CEO Lori Fogarty.

The exhibit is on display through October 21 at Oakland Museum of California
