Drag brunch is great, but sometimes you want to make an evening out of it. Enter Sizzle, a brand-new drag dinner hosted by drag queen Bobby Friday and One Market chef Mark Dommen.

Sizzle kicks off Friday, September 6, and will be a monthly entertainment series at One Market restaurant, a stalwart contemporary American restaurant that’s been making San Franciscans happy for more than 30 years. It sits right at the foot of Market Street in a gorgeous 1916 building that was originally the headquarters for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Huge windows give views of the Ferry Building, the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge.

Along with stellar drag performances and a four-course gourmet dinner, each Sizzle event benefits a different charity. Seating slots begin at 6:30pm and the show starts at 8pm. The $98 ticket covers dinner and the drag revue but doesn’t include drinks, tax and a 20 percent gratuity. Remember to bring cash for tipping the queens.

Friday, who you may know from Haus of Friday, a company specializing in custom-made wigs and event production, will host each dinner. For September’s event, expect a cast of fierce and gorgeous queens, including Tila Pia, Bionka Simone and Margo. On the dinner front, you’ll have an amuse-bouche trio (chickpea tot, tomato gazpacho and blistered padron pepper), a first course of a wedge salad or an ahi tuna tartare, a main course of either spit roasted prime rib or grilled wild King salmon, and a fancy take on a banana split for dessert. September’s charity is the Castro Country Club, a sober community center and a refuge home for the LGBTQ+ recovery community. The CCC’s volunteer-run cafe, open 365 days a year, invites people to hang out before or after a meeting in the safe and sober environment to enjoy Peet’s coffee or tea and a snack.

In October, Sizzle will benefit La Casa de las Madres, which provides support services for survivors of domestic violence and those who care about them, including emergency shelter, counseling, and advocacy. In November, Sizzle helps support the GLBT Historical Society, which preserves LGBTQ+ history, culture and arts, and in December funds benefit Transgender District, the first legally recognized transgender district in the world, founded by three Black trans women in 2017 in the Tenderloin. The district fosters the history, culture and empowerment of the transgender community via economic and cultural initiatives.
