Have you ever heard of Level? No, you haven't because it's brand new and about to take you to Spain for very little money. Owned by British Airways parent company, International Airlines Group, Level is offering three flights a week from Oakland to beautiful Barcelona for as little as $149 starting this June 2nd. This is a great (and big) deal as flights from the Bay Area to Spain usually run well over a thousand dollars round-trip. But we'll come back to that.
Level, which will initially be operated by Spain's Iberia Airlines, aims to compete with Norwegian Airlines which will be offering flights as low as $199 from Oakland to Barcelona. Those flights begin June 7th. Travelers should remember that any and all extras will incur additional cost, like carry-on baggage and food. If you plan to bring a snack and a sweater with you to Spain, it'll cost extra. There's also upgrades available for premium economy and a flight loyalty program.
But is Level really offering us a trip to Spain for $298 round-trip? We did a little research. $149 tickets are hard to find on Level's flight search site, which will compare the prices of other airlines for you. For example, on Sunday July 9th, you can fly Level from Oakland to Barcelona for $235. You can return on Tuesday, July 18th for $435. That's a total of $670. The next cheapest flights to Barcelona on those dates from either Oakland or San Francisco are over $1,000. So basically, you might be able to find tickets as low as $149 one-way through Level, but overall you'll definitely find a bargain.
