Hikers on Mt. Tamalpais are surely familiar with this charming landmark, a spacious lodge that seems to have materialized out of the 19th century Alps. Built in 1912, today the venue is headquarters of the Nature Friends Tourist Club, a mountaineering and conservation organization populated by fortunate members who also serve as volunteers. Non-members can access the facility just a few times each year for a number of seasonal festivals and fundraisers, and for rare work days open to prospective members.
