Gagosian is an internationally revered name in the art world. This gallery is the 16th of its exhibition spaces, which span London, Paris, Los Angeles, Rome, Athens, Paris, and Hong Kong. The San Francisco space opened in 2016, situated in the shadow of the new SFMOMA. The airy, 4,500-square-foot space—housed in the stately Crown Point Press building—was designed by LA architect Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY Architecture. It maintains its original steel columns and minimalist gray finishes—the better to highlight the rare, world-class art. The gallery’s quarterly exhibits might include work of greats such as Andy Warhol, Louise Bourgeois, Cy Twombly, and Picasso.
