Dear reader, how many wonders does this city have and how many times on a daily basis do you ignore them? One day, you swear that that stunning façade wasn’t there, the following you see a statue you’ve never seen before… Ribeira da Granja Observatory Centre (Observatório da Ribeira da Granja) is one of such examples. It’s located by the riverside and it was built so that people could see the bird biodiversity that exists near the Douro river. To find the observatory you need to search for a sign with bird silhouettes on it. Behind it, you’ll find a binocular and a panel describing the species. Pretend you’re an ornithologist and start investigating until you find birds like the grey heron, the great cormorant or the ruddy turnstone. Take advantage of what the city has to offer – before they make you put a coin into that binocular and pay for it too.
