Following in the footsteps of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Phuket is becoming a popular destination for cocktail connoisseurs as its tippling culture steadily evolves from overly-sweet, juice-heavy concoctions to more balanced spirits-focused drinks.

Thanks to self-training initiatives and global competitions, Phuket-based bartenders are now well-equipped with knowledge on mixology and top-quality spirits, and in effect, have refined the bar scene in the world-renowned beach paradise. To experience Phuket’s continuously blossoming cocktail culture, we take you on a fun and heady journey through a few of the best bars the province has to offer when you’ve only got one day.

Please remember to not drink and drive.

Catch Beach Club takes typical holidays to another level with a fun beach club vibe. Situated on Bang Tao Beach, Catch ranks above other bars and beach clubs in the same league. It’s Phuket’s most iconic beach club and features nightly appearances by top DJs as well as live music and special events. However, we recommend hitting up Catch Beach Club in the afternoon. Casually lounge on the sandy shore while admiring the view and sip on refreshing, beach perfect tipples. Opt for a Signature Spritz or choose from a menu of classic cocktails, top-tier spirits, champagnes and wines.

Benefitting from what could be the best location in Patong, FUGA Beach Club is located on the northern end of Patong Beach, is located directly on the sand and overlooks the Andaman Sea. FUGA Beach Club truly provides a breathtaking beachfront experience and is a prime spot to appreciate the sunset with a refreshing cocktail in hand. If you’re feeling hungry, snack on light bites or sharing platters while sipping on Sparkling Wine Cocktails or enjoying a classic Negroni or Old Fashioned.

Tu Kap Khao is one of Phuket’s most popular dining destinations for the province’s regional cuisine. But what many may not know is that the restaurant hides a small cocktail bar in the back. The intimate space serves molecular takes on cocktails as well as classic drinks with the bartender’s personal twist. Try classic favourite cocktails such as the Moscow Mule for a refreshing good time.

Dibuka Cafe & Restaurant can easily pass for a fancy gastropub in Thonglor. With its industrial-style decor and trendy firefly light bulges, the cafe & restaurant draws Phuket locals and visitors alike for its delicious fusion fare and boisterous live music performances. It’s also a destination for cocktail connoisseurs. Ask the head bartender to make something for you. We guarantee it’ll be an impressive spirits-forward cocktail.

Known for being one of Phuket’s original swanky cocktail bars, Dibuk House can give Bangkok’s best bars a run for their money. Owner and head bartender Phongsathorn (Wynn) Chaokitiwut, the second runner-up at Diageo World Class Thailand 2018, has come up with a drinks menu that explores a variety of flavour profiles and creative appropriations of classic cocktails. Start off with Last Living to Survive (Beefeater Gin, crème de cacao white and Thai tea), the refreshing cocktail that put Wynn in the spotlight at the World Class competition.
