Blame it on the Eagles win or the fact that Philly is quickly inching toward cosmopolitan-city status, but single men in Philadelphia are feeling extra generous these days when it comes to first dates—at least according to a new study from WhatsYourPrice.com.
The dating site, which allows folks to enter an amount of money they’re willing to spend on a first date, pulled together data from 4,850,700 dating bids to find a list of the 10 cities willing to spend the most money to woo a potential mate. Philadelphia came in at No. 2, with dudes saying they’re willing to fork over an average of $396 on a first date. That’s just behind the most expensive city in the country, San Francisco, and more than $100 more than the third-place finisher, Dallas.
Here’s the complete top 10:
- San Francisco - $422
- Philadelphia - $396
- Dallas - $236
- New York City - $207
- Chicago - $205
- Spokane, Wash. - $204
- Cleveland - $198
- Detroit - $190
- Roswell, N.M. - $186
- Boston - $184
What could an almost $400 date get you? You could blow it all on a dinner at Vetri (sans the wine pairing). Or start the night with drinks at one of the best bars in Philadelphia, then have a nice dinner at amorous spots like Parc or Zahav. Or you could skip dinner to take a romantic 30-minute helicopter sunset tour over Philadelphia for $420.
While we’re on the subject: If you want a fun date night that’s free, we’re looking for straight guys who’d like to go on a blind date with a local gal and be featured in a column called Dating IRL in our upcoming print issues. You‘ll get dinner, go out for drinks and take part in a fun experience—all courtesy of the participating venues. If you’re interested in taking part, email josh.middleton@timeout.com.
