This fall marks the second annual Cookbooks & Convos series hosted by The Sisterly Love Collective (SLC), a local non-profit that connects women in hospitality. SLC is currently led by some of Philadelphia’s most esteemed restaurateurs, including Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality Group (a.kitchen+bar, High Street, Fork), Sofia Deleon of El Merkury and Tenango Rum, Jill Weber of Sojourn Philly (Jet Wine Bar, Rex at the Royal, Sor Ynez), chef Jen Carroll, and others.

Presented by OpenTable, Cookbook & Convos is a series of culinary events where female cookbook authors nationwide partner with local women-owned businesses and restaurants.

It’s an expanded version 2.0 of Philly’s “The Book and The Cook” program, which took place for 23 years from 1984 to 2007, and is now revived as an annual two-week program. From October 8th to October 22nd, Philly restaurants and bookstores will host special chef collaboration dinners, author meet-and-greets, talks and culinary events. This year’s visiting authors include Priya Krishna, author of Priya’s Kitchen Adventures: A Cookbook for Kids; Toni Tipton-Martin, author of Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, and Juice: Cocktails from Two Centuries of African American Cookbooks; Hetty McKinnon, author of Tenderheart: A Cookbook About Vegetables and Unbreakable Family Bonds; Paola Velez author of Bodega Bakes; and Von Diaz author of Islas and Coconuts & Collards.

The full line-up will be announced and tickets will be available in early September. Sign up for the SLC newsletter to be notified as soon as tickets go live.
