The cost to drive between Philadelphia and New Jersey is about to increase. Four bridges managed by the Delaware River Port Authority are getting a toll increase for the first time in 13 years, but the rate of the increase is still up for a board vote.

The tolls are slated to increase from $5 to $6.50. However, a proposal to factor in the rate of inflation and factor in the Consumer Price Index as determined by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, suggests raising the tolls by just $1. An upcoming board vote will determine the official price increase and the date the higher tolls will be in effect.

"The consumer price index pricing will take effect, which means it will cost $6.50 to cross the bridges," James Schultz, chairman of the Delaware River Port Authority, told CBS News. "What this resolution will do is take it from that $6.50 increase to $6, so it's essentially a reduction from what the consumer price index is calling for."

The toll increase is imminent, but how much and by when is still up for debate. Here's everything you need to know.

Which bridges are getting a toll increase?

The Ben Franklin Bridge, Betsy Ross Bridge, Commodore Barry Bridge, and Walt Whitman Bridge will all see a toll increase.

When will these toll increases take effect?

While there's no official date for the toll increases to take effect, tolls can increase as soon as August 1, 2024.

How much are they increasing by?

Tolls will increase by $1 or $1.50, depending on how the board vote goes in July.
