Big things are planned for 2026 here in Philadelphia.
Not only will it be America's 250th Anniversary, but the MLB All-Star Game, PGA Championship, NCAA March Madness, and FIFA World Cup will all take place in the City of Brotherly Love. But perhaps the most unique event slated for 2026 is FloatLab, a floating park and learning center on the shores of Bartram’s Garden in Southwest Philadelphia.
In an effort to expand water programming, Mural Arts Philadelphia is partnering with Höweler+Yoon to build a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art installation and learning laboratory where visitors can access the Schuylkill River at eye level. The circular design showcases art, architecture, and engineering with nature at its core. Picture a 75-foot-wide observation deck that floats and has a loop shape, offering panoramic views of the Schuylkill River and the city's skyline.

The project combines public art, educational, and environmental purposes (workshops, events, classroom visits) that essentially invite guests to explore a living laboratory on the water and foster equitable, intimate access to Philadelphia’s underutilized waterfront. Rumor has it there will also be a pool in the center, a stage, gallery, fishing and boating opportunities—all free and open to the public.
Save the date: Mural Arts Philadelphia will hold a public celebration of the launch of the construction project at Bartram's Garden on Sunday, October 20, during Mural Arts Month and the annual Bartram’s Garden Harvest Fest.
