Given its proximity to Perth's centre and its vast natural splendour, Serpentine National Park makes for an ideal day trip location from the city.
Travel for just over an hour from the capital and find yourself amongst kangaroos hopping around the bushland, diverse bird life, and other fauna like echidnas and brush-tailed possums. The centrepiece of the park is the majestic Serpentine Falls – though it's also claimed the lives of many tourists, so don't be tempted to jump. For your best chance at seeing the park awash with the sight and scent of bright wildflowers, visit between July and November.
Pack a tent to stay the night, or a picnic basket to feast on at the barbecues and picnic tables in the area.
