The State Buildings' developer, Adrian Fini, pitched a dream that he’d return the refurbished property to the people of Perth, opening up the grand spaces to all comers. And what better way to do this than to get top-notch coffee flowing? Longtime barista and owner Luke Arnold takes his inspiration from the global world of coffee but he’s very much about promoting local roasters, using Loaded beans from Nedlands, and also has a plan to widen the choice to some of the East Coast’s best, including Dukes of Melbourne. The kiosk itself – like the wider development – is a canny use of design, utilising a dumb-waiter winding mechanism salvaged from the building.
