Hailing from Melbourne – a city that knows a good cup of coffee – Grinders Coffee has been keeping Aussies well caffeinated for 60 years, supplying some of the best cafés around with roasted coffee beans, grounds and world-class equipment. Since its inception in 1962 by Giancarlo Gusti in what’s now known as Melbourne’s Little Italy, Grinders Coffee has established a reputation for producing a top brew.

These sought-after beans have luckily made it over west, in cafés both north and south of Perth’s CBD. Here are five cafés in Perth where you can get your hit of Grinders Coffee.

Oh, and to celebrate 60 years of Grinders Coffee, they are giving away a cash prize of $10,000 to one lucky Time Out reader, plus daily consolation prizes. To enter, head here.

Where: 420 Wellington St, Perth WA 6000
When: Daily 6am-6pm

As Trackside Bakery is located right in the Perth train station, some Perthites would have passed it on their daily commute unaware of the delicious brews and freshly baked goods being turned out daily. Next time you hop off at the Perth terminal, whether you’re off to work or to explore the city, make a pitstop here. Order a coffee (made from Grinders Coffee beans) and if you’re feeling peckish, choose from their selection of pies, sausage rolls, sweet treats and freshly made sandwiches, all made daily. Just like Grinders, Trackside Bakery has plenty of history: it's a family-run business with recipes passed down since 1927, when the family set up their first bakery in the wheatbelt region.

Where: 118 Marine Pde, Cottesloe WA 6011
When: Daily 6.30am-6.30pm

Sitting pretty on Marine Parade, just across the road from Cottesloe Beach, Cottesloe General Store is your go-to spot for a post-swim cup of joe and a hearty brekky. There’s nothing like an early morning plunge in the crisp Indian Ocean before sipping on a piping hot coffee, especially if it’s a top-notch brew made with Grinders Coffee. The general store also sells beach essentials, including bathers, hats, sunscreen, towels, snorkelling gear and more, ideal if you’ve decided to hop off at the Cottesloe train stop for an impromptu beach session. Foodwise, you can fuel up at the general store with burgers, fish and chips, toasties, pies, wraps and sweet slices.

Where: 974 Beaufort St, Inglewood WA 6052
When: Mon-Wed 7am-2pm; Thu-Sun 7am-4pm

Both a café and leafy garden store, Grow Café & Garden has all your indoor plant and caffeine needs sorted. Once you step foot into the lush café it’ll be hard to resist browsing the range of gifts, plants, funky pot plants and beautiful bunches of flowers. Park up at one of the indoor or outdoor tables and order a Grinders Coffee, paired well with a toasted sandwich – from the pulled pork toastie with caramelised onion to the ‘breakky’ toastie with bacon, eggs and tomato chutney. Top it off with something sweet – we can’t go past the cannoli. Dogs are warmly welcome, and you can even order dog biscuits for your pup to enjoy as you sip your brew.

Where: 99 Jindalee Blvd, Jindalee WA 6036
When: Mon-Fri 8.30am-3pm; Sat, Sun 8.30am-4pm

Jindalee Beach Shack is a bustling open-air café right on the water’s edge, serving up a large range of breakfast and lunch dishes. To complement the panoramic ocean views, order eggs benedict, smashed avo or toasties for breakfast, and for lunch, try anything from fish and chips (this close to the beach, it’s hard to resist), to Singapore noodles, nachos and burgers. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy a Grinders Coffee after a glorious beach walk or swim at Jindalee Beach or Quinns Dog Beach. Pooches are welcome to join while you dine alfresco-style.

Where: 1-2/19 Junction Blvd, Cockburn WA 6164
When: Mon 7am-2pm; Tue 7am-2pm & 5-9pm; Wed 7am-9pm; Fri 7am-late; Sat, Sun 8am-late

Café by day and buzzing tapas bar by night, Café Royal has all your favourite drinks on offer, from Grinders Coffee to cocktails (Espresso Martini, anyone?). They describe their interiors as industrial chic, and you’ll walk in to find hightop tables, plants and poster-covered walls. Their menu is tapas with a twist, serving over 30 delicious Indian dishes, but if you visit in the early AM, rest assured that terrific traditional café meals are on offer to enjoy with your coffee. Café Royal can be found tucked inside the Cockburn Central shopping centre.
