Bad Love Burger Co

At this stage of the game, Bad Love Burger Co is a Perth institution when it comes to the saucy buns that we all know and love. From humble beginnings as a pop-up to their now West Leederville home ground, Bad Love is here to stay, and for good reason. Wafer-thin beef patties are smashed to near a crisp, forming a laced edge of sorts that keep crowds coming back for more, alongside their famed fried chicken and vego burgers alike. Get around the Smokin’ Mike’s BBQ burger with two smashed beef patties, double cheese, bacon, pickles, crispy onions, smokey barbecue sauce and a slathering of tangy chipotle mayo – holy smokes!

Le Rebelle

Along Beaufort Street’s Mount Lawley hive, there’s a quaint bar and bistro that transports you to a bygone era of ‘Gay Paree’ combined with the present-day charm of New York haunts – Le Rebelle. The intimate night café takes things up a notch with its European fare, along with its thoughtful wine list to match any dish that takes your fancy. By no means is Le Rebelle a burger bar, however, one bunned offering can be found on their menu. The Le Burger bleeds two types of French cheese in all their glossy glory, a punchy tomato relish, and features a melt-in-the-mouth wagyu patty that seeps with its grilled juices – simple yet effective, rebellious by nature.

3230 Smoke and Grill

Southsiders will be pleased to know that there’s a bangin’ burger deep in the ’burbs – more specifically at 3230 Smoke and Grill in both Como and Jandakot. At this ground-round joint, their motto goes a little something like, ‘there is no limit to the size of your burger’, and by this, they mean that stacking them high in the sky is encouraged. Out of 3230’s ten burgers, the Bad Boy Brisket will well and truly hit the spot, featuring juicy slices of beef, coleslaw, pickles, sweet barbecue dressing and a secretive signature sauce – get ’em while they’re tender.

Chich

There’s a wood-centric small bar over in Osborne Park that takes drinkers and diners on an adventure to the Balkans through the medium of bites, burgers and beverages. The team at Chich do things a little differently, and it surefire shows in the best way possible. With a secret pljeskavica family recipe (that’s the grilled beef patty) hailing from Macedonia and going strong since the 1970s, it’s safe to say that you’re in for a treat. And although gnawing into the plain pljeskavica is tempting, the Godfather Deluxe is mighty irresistible with the addition of cheddar, coppa (pork cold cut), gherkins, red onion, tomato, lettuce and godfather sauce. It’ll have you saying, ‘wow, just like baba’s’.

Short Order

Orders up, and make it snappy, because Short Order is the word. After proving a success at their former Sunshine Harvester Works pop-up in Fremantle, Short Order has gained a cult following by dishing out some of the best burgers in Perth. Now serving from three locations – Freo, the CBD and Baldivis – Short Order keep it short and sweet, may we say. There are just seven ground rounds up for grabs, each with a distinctly American flair – canteen trays and all. If you’re after something truly chunky, the FNZ Nashville Hot Chicken burger will do the trick with the deep-fried slab dusted in chilli and doused in chilli oil alike, topped with slaw, pickles and comeback sauce too for indubitably satisfying mouthfuls.

Compton Burgers

On the outskirts of Northbridge lies a bangin’ eating house that’s notorious for reeling in celebs, namely hip-hop artist Coolio, rapper Jack Harlow, and now UB40 keyboardist Tony Mullings. Compton Burgers doesn’t mess around – it’s a casual joint that pays homage to the Los Angeles way of doing things and churns out truly oozy burgers that’ll leave your hands sauced up. And although Compton Burger has a very tempting 17 burgs across its menu, it’d be rude to go past the Old Skool. This hefty number demands a double smashed beef patty, six crisp rashers of bacon, four slices of melty American cheese, mayo and tomato sauce – stuffed to the brim between the fluffiest of potato buns. Now that’s what we’re talkin’ about.

Seasonal Brewing Co

’Tis the season for a burger. Just kidding, it’s always the season for a burger, especially at Seasonal Brewing Co in Maylands. This inner-city hotspot has a whole yeasty production going, with a line of house-brewed beers to boot. Truth be told, they all go down a treat, especially with one of the brewpub’s famed burgers in the adjoining leafy courtyard. Seasonal’s Smashed Cheeseburger is pretty up there with its flattened beef patty and oozy American cheese, maple bacon, pickles, fried onions, mustard and drippy tomato sauce. An equally tasty offender is the Fried Enoki Burger with a ’shroom patty that resembles the pulled texture of meat. Whack on some slaw, pickles, plant-based cheese and chipotle glaze and you’ve got yourself a winner. Word on the street is that it’s one of the best vegan burgers in Perth.

What to order: Smashed Cheeseburger and Fried Enoki Burger

Two Stacks

It’s all about beachside burgers at Two Stacks, with a Sunshine Harvester Works outpost and brand-spankin’ new South Fremantle shop too. Both smashed and chicken burgers are all the rage at Two Stacks, and they’ve risen to popularity with their delicate, laced beef patties that are crisped to perfection – they’re like a meat cookie of sorts. Two Stacks’ refined menu enlists seven ground rounds that are all worthy of a spot at the best burger in Perth, but we reckon the Out-N-In does a pretty decent job. Two smashed beef patties hold up the usual offenders – cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, tomato sauce, mustard and a secretive Stack Sauce. It’s what burger dreams are made of.

What to order: Out-N-In
