The Penang Heritage Trust (PHT) is a charitable NGO dedicated to promoting and conserving the cultural heritage of the island. As part of their endeavours, the PHT organises a host of fascinating tours focusing on the heritage zones. Guides are very knowledgeable and, more importantly, passionate about their town. Also, they’re armed with the anecdotal information only locals can provide.
They have a choice of four heritage walks – Armenian Street and Clan Jetties, Street of Harmony, Little India and Colonial District – covering the main areas in the heritage zone, lasting three hours and conducted in English or Chinese with the option of foreign language guides in Japanese, French and German. Customised heritage tours like the ‘World War II Trail’, ‘Historical Cemetery Trail’ and the ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage Trail’ are also available.
Note that three working days notice is required to book a tour and all money goes back into the running of the Trust.
