Morganfield's typical American Midwest food of burgers, steaks, club sandwiches and their signature pork ribs slow-cooked in hickory wood and slathered in hickory flavoured barbeque sauce, is satisfying enough. This is no place for fine flavours. Instead, there will be magnified tastes of smoky wood, charred meats or creamy sauces.
For instance, their steak and prawns set that comes with two side orders at RM42.90++, may seem like such a contradictory in terms of texture and flavours, which they are! Although somehow, it works. The steak prepared at medium, has the usual, comforting grilled flavour and heavy on the salt while the prawns has a spicy and tangy marinade. While the steak is chewy, the prawns offer a softer bite, a delicate munch, almost. To accompany this dish are straightforward side orders such as fries, coleslaw and the like.
Meanwhile, their serving of ribs at RM38.90++ for half rack and RM68.90++ for a full one, seem heavily marinated and is a caveman's dream. It's tearing into meat and bones with flavours that are simple such as sweet and lightly smoky that equates comfort. A mound of mash potatos and steamed crunchy vegetables such as blocks of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli add interest to each bite. By the way, the half rack will satisfy an average appetite nicely.
To add to their non-complex flavours, is their edgy interior of unpolished wood and fun wall ornaments. The result is an ambience that spells casual and allows one to relax, it says, 'come in, eat and be merry'. The young service staff seem cool and sufficiently efficient, making the place not only perfect as a family diner but also for friends to get together for a catch-up session after work. Kitty Kaye
