After all this underwhelming weather, a ‘magical cabaret’ on the Champs-Elysées is just what we need to get the summer groove going this June and July. For one month only, Clément Debailleul and Raphaël Navarro are bringing their dream-like two-hour magic/dance/circus show to the Théâtre du Rond-Point, with a cast featuring the likes of Eric Antoine, Calista Sinclair, Yann Frisch, Etienne Saglio and Ingrid Estarque, along with musicians Madeleine Cazenave and Camille Saglio. This impressive coterie of magicians, dancers and musicians – together known as ‘Nous, rêveurs définitifs’, in a clear nod to André Breton, the founder of Surrealism – all subscribe to the recent ‘nouvelle magie’ (‘new magic’) trend in one way or another. This movement, which essentially seeks to promote a more thoughtful, more theatrical species of magic show, here finds its expression in a series of ten or so short scenes that are at once funny, poetic and charming.
