Au revoir to pesticides and fertilisers! The organic movement has taken firm hold in Paris and among the hordes of organic supermarkets and grocers opened in the capital, The Bio Shop has managed to sets itself apart with a particularly attractive model – selling unpackaged products in bulk. Dried fruits, cereals and even liquids (everything from juice and wine to liquid detergent and shampoo) – shoppers can bring their own containers and pay by the kilo or litre.
Run by organic cooperative Cigales, the shop also stocks an impressive line of unpackaged cosmetics: eye shadow and eyeliner as well as a whole range of essential oils, including natural cures like tropical basil oil (for muscle aches) and Bourbon geranium oil (aromatherapy).
The shop also sells organic foods: fruits and veggies from France and Spain, teas and infusions, gluten-free breads and rare plant staples like brown flaxseed and white sesame. Two weekly fresh produce baskets (€12-€20) are available for pre-order and can be picked up at the shop from Tuesday onwards.
