The façade of this 240-square-metre shop and workshop simply reads ‘mercerie inventive’ (‘inventive haberdashery’), and that’s actually a pretty good résumé of the extensive range of sewing, knitting and embroidering gizmos it contains. On the shelves, there’s pretty much everything you could possibly need: scissors, buttons, needles, zips, fabric (Linna Morata, Liberty) and colourful wools in all hues.
But the main draw at Maison Cousu is its underground workshop space, which plays host to classes for almost all ages (five and over) and abilities, as well as a range of skill-based lessons, like following patterns or making a pleated skirt. Prices for the regular classes range from €16 for children to €30 for adults, but may be more if you’re after a personalised workshop for a baby shower or birthday.
