Concept stores and department stores are so passé – apparently the latest thing we should all care about is the oh-so-Parisian ‘select store’. For a long time an online store, the L’Exception in the Canopée des Halles is styling itself as the leader in a new wave of refined Parisian boutiques that aim to bring together only the most exquisite and modish of French brands. From the relatively unknown Atelier Bartavelle to big players like Givenchy and Petit Bateau, this particular boutique stocks over 400 labels and specifically prides itself on discovering young and exciting new talent.
But don’t come here expecting a cheap shopping experience by any means. Look around, and you’ll spot an Ambrym linen T-shirt at €123, a mint coloured blazer from Cavalier Bleu at €325, and a Jatual silk and cotton graphic print dress at €450. Aside from the lofty prices, the only other downside here is the focus on small sizes – sadly you’ll be hard pressed to find anything above a 40 here (UK size 12).
