Fromagerie Beaufils offers more than just great quality cheese in a friendly environment. The team behind the shop regularly visits suppliers and video-documents the cheese-making process, from udder to manufacture. They also age selected cheeses in a cellar beneath their shop on the Rue de Belleville.
The selection shows an appetite for international flavours, with shelves of Greek, Spanish, Italian and American cheeses (the raw milk blue cheese Rogue River Blue from Oregon is a definite favourite). Fromagerie Beaufils also works closely with expert London creamery Neal’s Yard Dairy to source the UK's finest Stilton, Stitchelton, Tymsboro, Stawley, Sparkenhoe Red Leicester, Montgomery’s Cheddar, Stinking Bishop and more. A broad French selection is available too: Rouelle du Tarn from the Midi-Pyrénées, garlic and pepper Gaperon from the Puy-du-Dôme, Comtesse de Vichy from Loire and Camembert from Normandy, plus butters and yoghurts from Brittany and Charente.
Shelves are stacked with gourmet accompaniments: Wooden Spoon lemon curd, Sheridan’s chutney, onion marmalade, oatcakes and crackers promise to add some British notes to your tasting, or there are French products including lemonades, Maison Marc gherkins, Goutte d’Or beers and artisanal spreads. It's always worth asking for recommendations, as the staff are passionate and knowledgeable.
