Welcome to Biérocratie, a stone's throw from the Butte aux Cailles, this cheerful boutique is dedicated to beer, beer and more beer. It offers a fine selection sourced from far and near; including Belgian and French (even Parisian), plus craft and micro brewed beers. But if you step into this independent cellar hoping to leave with a Leffe or Chimay under your arm, think again.
Managers Pierre and Jaclyn make excellent guides, showcasing their diverse wares and finding the best bubbles to suit your palate. Expect to be tempted by new flavours: a chocolate beer from Brasseurs du Grand Paris (who also make Choco-Laiterie, a milky stout), Sori Brewing’s Dark Humour Club Coconut or even the Cherry Ale Kill, which is matured on sherry chips by the team at Biérocratie.
If you fancy taking a leaf out of their books and dabbling in this boozy alchemy yourself, you can pick up a home-brewing kit. And to plunge even deeper into this hoppy world, Biérocratie offers workshops every first Thursday of the month, such as a four beers and cheese class, which promises a ‘titillating tasting’. These special evenings are limited to 10 people per session so make sure to book ahead as they sell like hot cakes. Our verdict? We can certainly raise a glass to Biérocratie.
