If you’re tired of kebabs consisting of gloopy white sauce and boring fillings, Zarma in South Pigalle is the spot for you. Part of the wave of ‘gourmet’ kebab shops cropping up across Paris, the tiny but welcoming space is run by experts in the art of street food. Here the dishes come with proper Greek yoghurt and tomato-harissa salsa and are topped with dried apricots and fresh mint or coriander. We dithered over the menu but eventually settled for the ‘Kebap de saison’ (€8) – tandoori chicken mixed with masala aubergine, raita, peas, and mango chutney, a real winner with its unexpected sweet and savoury combination. Dessert options include Turkish delight and a delectable orange flower éclair topped with crunchy pistachios. We’ll most definitely be coming back for the chocolate-harissa version.
