Located on the very Parisian Rue Batignolles, Japanese restaurant and caterer Kokoya is about as big as one of their own makis – just six tables, two waiters and a chef downstairs. That’s it, in a minimalist but charming set-up.
Start, perhaps, with flavourful, affordable sushi ordered piece by piece (€3-€4); salmon, scallops or eel, done with attractively sculptural presentation. Then a perfect chicken teriyaki (€16), perfectly cooked and seasoned. There’s nothing ravishingly original here, but it’s done so well as to win you over anyway. The sesame crème brûlée is recommended at dessert.
