Lying somewhere on the scale between a kebab and a panini, you’ll find Gustave’s hefty sarnies – light pita breads chock full of fresh, top quality ingredients. They’re put together to order as you watch, and there’s a filling for everyone: chicken, breaded fish, pastrami, grilled vegetables, minced beef or the daily special, plus soups and salads for the faint of appetite. Seating is available inside but don’t bother looking for a seat at peak times – instead, grab a handful of napkins and head for the nearest park (it’s 10 minutes away on the Place d’Anvers, in case you were wondering). We tried a vegetarian version, generously stuffed with roasted veg and mined with lovely crumbly feta, and a pastrami and cheddar number equally liberally filled. Starving? Hungover? Just in need of a proper lunch? You deserve a Gustave.
