Acoustic purists might resist the notion of al fresco violins, but there’s much to love about liberating classical music from the stiff formality of concert halls. Summer days in Paris have for many years the season for the festivals Kisoques à Musique and Kiosquorama, pop-up open air stages for choral works, chamber orchestras and many other genres in Second Empire, art deco and more modern styles. It’s an encouraging sign of popularisation of often bourgeois genres.
