This refreshingly unpretentious hotel is located on a quiet sidestreet just a five minute saunter from the shopping and nightlife delights of Bastille. It’s a slick, attractive, high-comfort spot with all the mod cons that a business traveller needs. The 55 rooms are divided into two different styles: urban or écolo (eco-friendly), some with a balcony.
Unusually, however, it also has something of a boutique ethos - including regularly-changed art displays in the foyer-cum-gallery and super-friendly staff (the visitors’ book is filled with effusive messages about the chummy service). The concierge is extremely clued-up about the neighbourhood and the wider city, and is a particularly good source of restaurant recommendations.
Mornings see a delicious buffet breakfast laid out in a light, airy dining space where contented guests knock back powerful espressos and toy with freshly-baked croissants while riffling through the day’s papers. Room service is swift and offers a series of excellent platters, including gourmet cheeses, smoked salmon and a top-notch Quiche Lorraine.
The Marceau Bastille offers excellent value for money, swapping the stuffiness and old-fashioned design of many similarly-priced spots for charm and modern design. Highly recommended.
