Open from midnight to noon the next day, the Pigallion is for serious clubbers only. Coming on a Saturday night is a little like stepping into hell: red lighting, sweltering heat, multiple levels. As for the crowd, let’s just say it’s not the healthiest looking lot. Cold wave, trance and mental techno are the main musical offerings, but lately the venue has also begun programming some pretty great house music – robust, danceable stuff. With beer priced at €8 and hard liquor at €10, drinking here is a real drain on your wallet, especially if you plan on staying all night. As in any self-respecting Parisian ‘fumoir’, two minutes in the Pigallion’s murky smoking room will have your eyes watering worse than a freshly chopped onion. So, our advice: enjoy in moderation. Come for a few hours to bathe in your own sweat and tears, but don’t be too shocked when you catch yourself in the mirror looking like something out of ‘The Walking Dead’.
