Downstairs is an elegant and subdued boudoir club in the 10th – all exposed brick, filament bulbs and moulded ceilings – with a jazz ambiance that is at once deliberately retro and crisply up-to-date. Entry is through sister venue Le Bronco’s dining room.
The club’s line-up is eclectic to say the least: from composer Stéphane Bissières’ electro-acoustic improvisations to DJ Matthias Meyer’s minimal techno, with a 30-something clientele who are always there for the music (watch out for the occasional vinyl bore). Soft drinks are €4, beer €6, cocktails €12-€14. The wine selection ranges from €25-€120 depending on the bottle. And although the menu is a little steep, there’s no cover charge, which helps.
