La Péniche Cinéma dropped anchor on the Canal de l’Ourcq in 2008, just across from Le Cabaret Sauvage and La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie. The boat’s largest cabin, a projection room with a rollback canvas roof, hosts public screenings of films by little-known directors as well as debates, workshops, and other film-related events. The programming is eclectic and ambitious.
From March through August, the boat’s upper deck opens as a restaurant, La Table de Franckie, strictly for lunch (noon to 3pm) and Sunday brunch. The menu offers sophisticated home-cooked dishes (marinated meats, grilled veggies, gourmet salads and hot sandwiches) made with fresh, seasonal produce. The three-course menu is fixed at €16.
On occasion, the péniche also plays host to electro parties and other all-night festivities. The events program can be seen here.
