There’s nothing Monaco-esque about this little bar except for the name; it’s actually one of the cheapest in the area. You could easily walk by without spotting it in the confusion of the Temple crossroads in the Marais, but that’s precisely why it’s a real find – plus the unpretentious ambiance in a hugely self-conscious area, the regulars of all ages hanging out and gossiping, and the demis for €2.50. Décor-wise, it’s not much more than a corridor and a couple of tables, and stools around an old-style polished bar: no sophistication here, just a few cool lamps and some pretty paintings on the walls. During happy hour (5pm-7.30pm), regulars gather for an affordable apéro with pints at €4 and cocktails at €6, or a glass of Chinon or Bordeaux. The secret ingredient is the tranquil little tree-lined covered terrace, heated in winter, which extends out on to the pavement in summer.
