The Quai de Javel ordinarily sees more dust than people – but with the establishment of this new bar-cum-music venue, that may be about to change. Channelling the spirit of the Belle Epoque guinguettes (essentially all-purpose nightlife hotspots), La Javelle exudes a kind of retro charm: fairy lights overhang large wooden tables, while bands play folk ditties on the accordion. A rowdy bar that serves traditional French bitters and a small selection of excellent food trucks (think curry and burgers) complete the picture. Plays, gigs and yoga classes are also held on a regular basis. The only fly in the ointment? Steep prices – a pint will set you back €7–€8. The chi-chi quartiers of the 16e are only across the river, after all.
