Hidden down a little street between Place de Clichy and Trinité, Le Béguin ('the crush' as in 'to have a crush on someone') is a no-frills dive bar that delivers the goods. The ’50s decoration sets the mood, but it's the seasonal menu that makes it worth the trip. Things like winter pumpkin soup, whole roast Mont d'Or cheese with orange blossom honey and dried fruit, or lamb confit with sweet potato mousseline are all a cut above the ordinary accompaniments for your glass of wine. Try a superior Bordeaux (€3.70), or oysters with a Pouilly-sur-Loire (€4 a glass).
