Slip through the main reception at boutique hotel Jules et Jim and enter the bar, a chic, secluded snug, with clean lines and grey-hued furnishings that make it a perfect fit for its Marais address. An open wood-burning fire in the courtyard wall adds serious glamping vibes to the affair and the obliging staff are happy for you to flit back and forth between there and the bar.
Its contemporary elegance is mirrored in the menu – all the usual cocktail classics plus a sixteen-strong list of originals, such as the Piskos Sgroppino, a lurid green goblet of Pisco, fresh basil, lemon sorbet and prosecco, or the Elderflower Negroni, given oomph with St. Germain liqueur. With ingredients like tomato water, Jägermeister and apricot jam, it’s clear that the bar team are keen to tick the trend boxes. Although we were a little irked when an Old Fashioned came served in a tin mug.
With cocktails ranging at a friendly €14-16, Jules et Jim is the ideal spot to hole yourself up in after a hard day’s culture at the nearby Pompidou centre. See you by the fire.
