This fruit and vegetable shop opened in 2015 in Senri New Town, Japan’s first ‘New Town’ development project from the 1960s. Farman Kitchen Market started out selling organic vegetables produced by the owner’s former junior high school teacher in Shimane prefecture, but has since expanded and now offers a large variety of produce from farms across Japan.
When visiting in summer, opt for the highly popular additive-free soft-serve ice cream made from Shimane milk, while roasted sweet potatoes are offered throughout the winter months. Every Saturday is ‘Sandwich Day’: we recommend the mackerel sandwich or one of the fruit sandos, both made with produce from Shimane. You’ll also find various salad bowls and bento (packed lunch) boxes. Nearby Expo ’70 Commemorative Park provides the best location for your weekend picnic.
Besides produce, Farman Kitchen Market sells condiments such as miso and habanero hot sauce as well as homemade jam.
