Staten Island's Freshkills Park, the former landfill that's being transformed into NYC's second largest park (after the Bronx's Pelham Bay), is still in development, but you can visit the site via a NYC Parks–organized bus tour. Check out the area and its wildlife on this free bird-watching excursion (which will include some walking, too) led by representatives from the Staten Island Museum and the Freshkills Park development team. To reserve a spot, e-mail doug.elliott@parks.nyc.gov or call 212-788-8277.
